 The Chapora Fort was built in 1612, it was besieged twice by Shivaji's son, Sambaji, in 1683 and Bhounsule in 1739, and occupied by the Portuguese in 1741. One get a beautiful view of the Vagator beach, Ozran Beach and Anjuna Beach from the Chapora Fort.Chapora is at a distance of approximately 34 kilometers from Panjim. Today, though mostly in ruins the fort gives a spectacular view of the Vagator and the Anjuna beach. Many people who come to the beaches visit the Chapora fort just to feel that mystical air and view the sea from the ramparts of the fort. The walls are still strong and have withstood the lashes of time for many years.  The Carnival in Goa is an integral part of the Portuguese heritage of the state. It was introduced by the erstwhile rulers as a rowdy celebration in which flour, eggs, oranges, lemons, mud, sand-filled gloves along with dirty water, various liquids and glue were aimed at passersby. Used pots, pans, and other kitchen utensils were also thrown out of windows. Perhaps this was done to discard the old and the dirty before the Lenten fast. Fierce battles were waged in the streets, with plaster-of-Paris eggs, wax lemons, corncobs and beans. Blows were dealt out liberally, with brooms and wooden spoons. It was also an occasion when people gorged on rich food at lavish feasts, and convents distributed cakes and pastries.Though celebrated for only three days, the preparations for the festival take days, and builds up a frenetic pitch by the eve of the carnival. |

 Aguada Fort, which crowns the rocky flattened top of the headland, is the best-preserved Portuguese bastion in Goa. Built in 1612 to protect the northern shores of the Mandovi estuary from Dutch and Maratha raiders, it is home to several natural springs. A spring within the fort provided water supply to the ships that called there arriving after the long sea voyage from Lisbon, giving it the name 'Aguada' (meaning 'water' in Portuguese). On the northern side, it provides a harbor for local shipping.
